Cristina Lozano presented end-users (patients, carers, and professionals) input on “Intelligent Monitoring Systems applied to Health,” specifically TeNDER during the European General Practice Research Network (EGPRN) meeting from 12 to 15 May.

During the “Innovation in Primary Care” conference, hosted by the Community of Madrid, Rodrigo Medina was awarded third place for his communications presentation on TeNDER. Nearly 300 health professionals participated over the course of two days.

We are proud of our partners and happy to see that their hard work is recognised nationally and internationally!

EU-funded projects and UCJC co-organise workshop on ICT in care settings

Video courtesy of the University of Camilo José Cela in Madrid

EU-funded projects TeNDER, PROCare4Life, and POSITIVE, together with the nursing faculty of the University of Camilo José Cela (UCJC)  organised an in-depth teaching and discussion session on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in care environments.

The workshop, conducted in Spanish, took place in Madrid on 23 March 2022. It was tailored for nursing and physiotherapy students, who will encounter an increasingly digitised work environment, a process accelerated in part by the COVID-19 pandemic.

As research and innovation in care settings become more common, it likewise becomes important to introduce students to the benefits, drawbacks, and the meaningful integration of ICT in healthcare.

TeNDER’s session was led by:

  • Fundación para la Investigación e Innovación Biosanitaria en Atención Primaria (FIIBAP): Laura Calderón Jiménez (Family and community nurse) and Rodrigo Medina García (Family and community doctor);
  • Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM): Javier Serrano (Engineer).

POSITIVE’s session was led by:

  • Servicio Madrileño de Salud (SERMAS): Nuria Alcolea (Family and community nurse // Nursing Director in Sector 3);
  • University Hospital of Getafe: Rodrigo Pérez Rodríguez (Engineer).

And finally, PROCare4Life’s session was led by:

  • Asociación Parkinson Madrid (APM): Jennifer Jiménez Ramos (Physiotherapist);
  • UPM: Alberto Belmonte Hernández (Engineer).

European Commission to showcase TeNDER on its Innovation Radar platform

TeNDER will soon join EU-funded innovations already showcased on the European Commission’s Innovation Radar platform, which spotlights promising projects.

Launched in 2018 under the framework of Horizon 2020, the goal is to “show citizens the many excellent technological and scientific advances being delivered by researchers and innovators around Europe.”[1]

We look forward to joining this initiative and congratulate all partners whose work has led us here.

Paper accepted for the 35th Alzheimer’s Disease International conference

Alzheimer’s Disease International’s 35th Global Conference will take place on 9-11 June 2022 in London and online. Apart from hosting the longest-running conference on dementia, Alzheimer’s Disease International (ADI) has created an important network of NGOs, researchers, and institutions working towards dementia risk reduction, timely diagnoses, better treatments, patient and caregiver support, and potential cures, among other things.

Year-round, ADI raises awareness, publishes reports, and helps promote the implementation of the World Health Organization’s Global action plan on the public health response to dementia.

This year, the programme will focus on eight key topics:

  • Symposium themes
  • Dementia as a public health priority
  • Dementia awareness and friendliness
  • Dementia risk reduction
  • Dementia diagnosis, treatment, care, and support
  • Support for dementia carers
  • Information systems for dementia
  • Dementia research & innovation

We are happy to announce that our partners at Spominčica – Alzheimer Slovenija have been invited to present their paper on TeNDER’s service co-creation approach. Their submission was accepted under the title “Dementia Inclusive Design of Affective Based Integrated Care for Better Quality of Life Tool.” It will be presented during the conference session “Well-being and quality of life II.”

SERMAS is co-organising workshop for nursing and physiotherapy students

Our partners at the Servicio Madrileño de Salud (SERMAS) and two other EU-funded projects are co-organising a workshop for nursing and physiotherapy students at the University of Camilo José Cela.

The workshop will delve into the projects’ different approaches to technology and health, and how they seek to improve the quality of life of patients. TeNDER will elaborate on ways in which future professionals can integrate technology into their fields of work in ways that have truly added value for the lives of patients.

Underscoring our interdisciplinary approach, our session will be led by Rodrigo Medina (family doctor – SERMAS), Laura Calderón (family nurse – SERMAS), Jennifer Jiménez (physiotherapist – Asociación Parkinson Madrid), and Javier Serrano (engineer – Polytechnic University of Madrid).

The event will be transmitted live in Spanish via: https://eu.bbcollab.com/guest/c626504600e346c597129b7305de1e11.

Pre-spring update: 2nd wave of pilots and events

The second wave of pilots is currently underway. The Servicio Madrileño de Salud (SERMAS) has recruited 146 patients so far, and they have organized additional inclusion sessions for the following weeks. Participants are using Fitbit, as well as sleep and binary sensors. In another part of the city, the Asociación Parkinson Madrid (APM) continues to test the depth cameras in their centre’s rehabilitation areas.

Meanwhile at the University of Rome – Tor Vergata (UNITOV), the research team is finalising the recruitment process. The beginning of the second wave of pilots is set to begin in Rome towards the end of February – beginning of March. The installation phase continues, especially the Kinect Azure (a type of depth camera), which will be used in the hospital.

Finally in Ljubljana, researchers at Spominčica (SPO) are applying what they learned during their first wave of piloting. They are now testing the system together with people with mild dementia and their caregivers. Users are growing familiar with the TeNDER tools and services, and they are providing feedback to help make the system fit people’s needs.

In other news, TeNDER is co-organising an event this Spring. The “QUality of LifE Support SysTem for People sufferIng from COgNitive impairments or intellectual disabilities” (QUESTION) workshop will take place during the PETRA Conference 2022 (from 29 June to 1 July). We have officially extended the deadline to submit papers to 21 March 2022. If you have any questions regarding the submission procedure, you can contact the organizers: Nicholas Vretos, vretos@iti.gr; Vassilis Solachidis, vsol@iti.gr: Nikos Grammalidis, ngramm@iti.gr; and/or Federico Álvarez, fag@gatv.ssr.upm.es.
